Not only does each knot come with several large and simple illustrations the easiest to understand that I've ever seen , but also detailed information on its application, such as when and when not to use it. The history behind some of the knots is fascinating, and Budworth's anecdotal experience lets the reader know that each knot is tried and true. A must-have for anybody interested in boating, outdoors, or even craft hobbies. Even if An excellent guide to the most useful and practical knots.

Even if you're NOT interested in these activities, this is a superb reference for any person, since the ability to tie anything more than shoelaces is a skill too often unpracticed by those who don't require it daily.

International Guild of Knot Tyers

Officially established in , the founding members were initially drawn together by the publication in The Times of an allegedly new knot, the Hunter's bend. Des Pawson was a retail manager for a large stationery firm based in Ipswich and also no mean knot craftsman. Geoffrey Budworth was a Metropolitan Police Inspector and knotting consultant. Des first wrote to Geoff on 8 October They met before the month was over, and if it was not mentioned then the idea of contacting other knotting enthusiasts was raised by Des in a letter dated July, , when he pressed for a suitable venue and suggested The Maritime Trust. Even then, went by without further development; and this is a source of regret to them both as it was the centenary of Clifford W. Ashley's birth.
