Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to:a design and fabricate simple electronic equipment prototype fordemonstration, development and experimentation purposes;b specify and explain contemporary pragmatic manufacturing processes,interconnects and assembly methods for electronic equipmentfabrication;c prescribe and perform parametric test and analysis and thetroubleshooting of simple electronic circuits with the application ofbasic and virtual electronic instruments;d design and verify simple electronic equipment with embedded system;e design and create commercial grade, Web based information system forinformation sharing, business control and logistics; andf recognize training forms an important part for a professional engineercareer and the needs for multi-disciplinary training and continueprofessional development in professional engineering practice.

Practicaltraining will focus on best practice of electronic and information workand the application of tools in an industrial or engineering setting. Students will aware industrial safety, environmental and sustainabilityissues in electronic and information product design and manufacturingduring practical training. In training tasks, student will performpractical tasks to create practical design on realistic constraint and workthrough its implementation.

Student can seizethe opportunities to practise and demonstrate their team work skills,leadership potential, critical thinking ability and creativity throughworking with each other in projects that are encountered in practicaltraining. Introduction to electronic assembly design and manufacturingprocess, components, tools and machines. Hands-on practice on wave-soldering, SMT process, chip levelwire bonding, chip-on-board encapsulation, LCD displayattachment with heat seal connector.

Soldering quality of BGA assembly and X-ray inspectionmachine. Introduction to materials and design of mechanical small parts,chassis and support for electronic products. Hands-on training willfocus on the design and fabrication of parts for electronicprototype assembly using available stock material and fasteningsolution. Application of engineering plastic stock in the design andfabrication of parts, linkages and structures for electronic productprototype. Hands-on training will focus on the application of toolsand processes including laser processing, heat forming andvacuum forming with appropriate joining techniques, fasteningand assembly solution.

Appreciation of mass production processes for metal and plasticparts fabrication. Introduction to wet Double-sided PTH Process, materials anddesign; electroplating on copper and aluminum parts, electrolessplating, application and protection; PCB quality control andcommon defects.

Hands-on practice on motor control and sensors. Application of Microcomputer on consumer electronic products,mechatronics, home automation products, wired and wirelessconnectivity. Application and practice of Microsoft relational database onWeb. Data binding and database creation, indexing, input andoutput operations. Introduction to business computing and logistics; workflow,electronic forms, information acquisition and dissemination onWeb.

Hands-on introduction to Microsoft Office Server for businessoperation, Sharepoint Designer and applications. LearningMethodologyThe teaching and learning methodology included instructor guided practice,demonstration and projects. Students will be exposed to industrial gradetraining facilities and workshop environment for pragmatic work in differentengineering disciplines.

Different training activities are arranged forindividual module. Training activities are designed with a project centredlearning or problem based learning approach so as to motivate learning andenable critical thinking.
